Our small, local newsroom is getting a boost this summer from our first-ever intern.

Salem Reporter is happy to welcome Anna Smith, who's aiding our team with graphics and photography this summer.

Smith finished her studies at Lane Community College in June, where she worked as production manager for the college's award-winning newspaper, The Torch.

After learning about Salem Reporter at a community college newspaper day earlier this year, she reached out about working with our reporters to enhance our visuals and graphics.

Though she's only on her second week, Smith has already earned several photo and graphics credits.

She teamed up with reporter Rachel Alexander to cover a hands-on firefighting course for Salem-Keizer migrant summer school students earlier this week.

Smith put her illustration chops to work for Alexander's watchdog report on local teachers being assaulted by students, suggesting and executing several graphics for the article.

Over the summer, she'll be designing more news graphics for us and working with our reporters to shoot photos and video at local events.

We're excited to see what else she does and show her how a small newsroom operates.
