A man collapsed at a McDonalds in northeast Salem Wednesday night after being shot, according to a press release from the Salem Police Department.

Passersby were helping the victim in the drive-thru area when officers arrived at the fast food chain in the 1500 block of Hawthorne Ave. N.E. around 9:30 p.m., according to Salem Police spokesman Treven Upkes.

Upkes said police aren't releasing the location of the gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to Salem Health for treatment and his status is unknown, Upkes said.

Upkes said the shooting occurred at a different location and the man walked to McDonalds.

The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available, Upkes said.
